Mandaue likely to let garbage trucks thru

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Traffic Management Board will likely allow Cebu City's garbage trucks to enter the city.

However, city administrator James Abadia yesterday said the move should not be mistaken for a compromise, especially that Mandaue jeepneys are barred from entering Cebu City.

Earlier, Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera visited the office of Mayor Jonas Cortes and asked if the city would allow Cebu City's garbage trucks to enter Mandaue from Consolacion town.

Cabrera told the mayor the garbage trucks will only enter the city after unloading garbage in Consolacion.

Abadia said there's a big possibility Cebu City's garbage trucks will be allowed to enter Mandaue.

He said the set-up will continue to be studied the fact that Cebu has 100 trucks that would be traversing Mandaue three times daily.

Abadia said the city welcomes the plan of the Cebu City council to amend the ordinance which prohibits the entry of Mandaue City passenger jeepneys at the downtown area.  (FREEMAN)
