Paz thanks youth for role in protecting environment

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza acknowledges the big contribution of the youth in addressing the problem concerning peace and order in schools and the protection and preservation of environment.

Radaza said that early this year the city government deputized several young people to act as guardians of their fellow classmates and the youth.

"I believe the Junior Police is one of the best options to keep your classmates from joining street gangs. They have helped a lot in intercepting potential victims of drug pushers victimizing school children and interdicting the activities of street gangs recruiting your classmates," Radaza said.

Radaza said she wants the youth to be her partner in inculcating the culture of tourism in everybody.

"You can always start with your family, then your neighbors to make the whole city welcome our visitors and tourists and make them come back for more. It can be as simple as a smile on your face to assisting them and giving them the experience of a comfortable stay," she said.

The city mayor said one of tourism's resources is the environment and preserving it will ensure that tourists will come back again and again.

Radaza said members of the Eco-Tourism Police have issued several citation tickets to people very much older than them for violating environmental laws. (FREEMAN)
