Port of Mactan bureau ups actual collection

CEBU, Philippines - The Port of Mactan of the Bureau of Customs has registered an increase in its actual collection against its target collection for the third quarter of this year, The FREEMAN learned yesterday.

A copy of the 2011 actual collection as opposed to the 2011 collection target shows that for the month of July the target collection was P47,300,000 actual collection was just P36,655,039.

And for the month of August, the bureau collected P44,630.329.12 as against its target collection of P58,300.000.

But for the month of September, the bureau recovered with an actual collection of P79,488,820.00 as against its target collection of P54,400.000, or a difference of P25,088.820.00, registering an increase of 46.12 percent in target collection.

For the first and second quarters, the bureau failed to meet its target collection because of the implementation of tax exemptions on some companies based in Mactan.

Port of Mactan Collector Paul Alcazaren said that for the two quarters, the forgone collection reached P382,741,175 which, if without the implementation of the tax exemptions, the bureau would have a bigger excess in its target collection. - THE FREEMAN
