No swimsuit contest in Miss Consolacion

CEBU, Philippines - The swimsuit competition in this year's Miss Consolacion beauty contest has been ditched in compliance with Governor Gwen Garcia's order, Bernardo Flores, chairman of the beauty contest committee, said.

"Dili gayud kami makasupak sa kamanduan sa gobernador gumikan kay nindot man usab kaayo ang iyang mga tumong alang sa atong kababayen-an," Flores said.

Flores said candidates can flaunt their talents even without the swimsuit competition.

The banning of swimsuit competitions in beauty contests in barangays, municipalities, and cities in the province started several years, although some quarters opposed it.

"Dili gayud kita makasupak sa kamanduan sa gobernador," they said.

Flores said the Miss Consolacion contest has been successful for several years now without the contestants having to bare a lot of skin.

However, some candidates vying for the Miss Consolacion crown this year want the swimsuit contest back. (FREEMAN)
