CEBU, Philippines - The Solid Waste Management Board of Mandaue City has proposed to dump the city's garbage at a private sanitary landfill in Consolacion town for six months while the road leading to the dumpsite in barangay Umapad is impassable due to incessant rains.
Engr. Ricardo Mendoza said heavy rains soften the dump's soil, the bane of garbage trucks.
He said the rains have also slowed down the rehabilitation of the dumpsite.
Mendoza said the proposal is expected to be signed by Mayor Jonas Cortes when he comes home from Germany where he is examining a waste facility there.
But for the city to save money, the barangays are still to observe waste segregation to make sure what is to be dumped at the private landfill will purely be residual waste.
