CEBU, Philippines - Former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri who now leads an environmental group has lauded officials of Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova town for establishing a marine sanctuary.
Speaking during the honoring of new lawyers and induction of new members of Mactan Island Lawyers League, an association of lawyers in Lapu-Lapu City, Zubiri praised the officials of the city and the town for breathing life into the corals damaged by illegal fishing.
He said he saw the damaged corals years ago and blamed fishermen from Lapu-Lapu, Cordova, and neighboring provinces for the destruction.
He said the marine sanctuary also generates income for the local government units.
(FREEMAN)
