CEBU, Philippines - A government official has promised aid to urban poor settlers who are the official beneficiaries of a housing project in the 6.5 relocation site in barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.
House Deputy Speaker Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III, in a meeting with Mayor Jonas Cortes yesterday, assured he will help the settlers avail of government funds that they could use to have water and electricity connections in the relocation area in Paknaan, Mandaue City.
This as 1,200 family-beneficiaries residing along Mahiga Creek and Butuanon River and other danger zones are now ready to transfer to the new site.
Tañada, accompanied by his staff, visited Mayor Jonas Cortes and discussed the urban poor situation in city.
Mayor Cortes showed the congressman from the 4th district a documentary on how the members of Lower Tipolo Homeowners Association, Inc. (LTHAI) in barangay Tipolo developed the lot donated by the city government and built decent homes out of their savings.
Tañada told Cortes the present Aquino administration has included the urban poor as one of its priority programs.
He said he may tap the funds coming from the Presidential Commission for Urban Poor.
Mandaue City legal consultant Atty. Francisco Amit Jr. who facilitated the visit of Rep. Tañada said the congressman really meant what he said.
