Taxi driver survives knife attack
CEBU, Philippines - A 33-year-old taxi driver survived a knife attack by a robber Sunday evening in barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City
Rogelio Noynay, married, a resident of barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, driver of Revolution Taxi with Plate no. GWJ 306, was taken to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital after getting stabbed on the neck. He was later transferred to Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
Police said Noynay was travelling along barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City when a man boarded his taxi and told to take him to barangay Gun-ob.
In Gun-ob, Noynay was told to proceed to barangay Canjulao.
There, the passenger pulled out a knife and pushing it against Noynay's neck, declared a holdup.
Noynay was stabbed when he refused to turn over his earnings.
Wounded, Noynay got off and ran towards a gas station while the armed robber fled.
But the police arrested Richard Gallarde, 18, of barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City, a high school student of Pajo National High School.
He was taken to the hospital where Noynay was being treated.
Noynay positively identified Gallarde as the man who stabbed him.
Charges are being prepared against Gallarde.
