CEBU, Philippines - The private sector, in partnership with the city government's 12 barangays and schools in Mandaue City spent the entire morning yesterday cleaning the Butuanon River and planting tree seedlings in its vicinity.
Yesterday's clean-up operation of the Butuanon river yielded more than 100 sacks of garbage mostly made of plastics and non-biodegradable were retrieved yesterday.initiated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
Engr. Amancio Dongcoy, the Solid Waste Management Coordinator of the Environmental Management Bureau, said the cleanup will be a regular activity from now on.
Dedon Manufacturing Inc, a firm that participated in the clean-up, collected 30 sacks of garbage in the Canduman area while San Miguel Packaging Corp accumulated ten sacks of garbage from the Maguikay area.
Garbage trucks from barangays Paknaan, Umapad, ALang-alang, Maguikay, Ibabao-Estabcia, Tabok , Casuntingan, Tingub, Canduman, Cabancalan, and Tawason, and another truck from Talamban, Cebu City picked up the garbage.
Companies that joined the clean-up were Dedon Manufaturing ,Metro Colon, Vicsal Foundation which donated P10,000 worth of clean -up materials, San Miguel Complex, Yamamura Packaging Corp, Ginebra San Miguel, Profood International , Treasure Island Industrial Corp, D'RBG Marine Ex-Import, Monde Nissin Corp., Cebu Premier Ind., Nutri-Asia Corp., Martitrans Recycler,Inc, Green Coil Industries, Petron Corp, and National Grid Corp.
Students from UCLM, Paknaan National High School, and Mandaue City Central School also joined the activity.
