CEBU, Philippines - Officials of Burauen town, Leyte are interested in replicating Mandaue City's Disaster and Risk Management Brigades as well as its automation project.
They visited barangay Banilad and learned from Captain Dianne Bercede Abanes how the barangay put up its own disaster and risk management brigade.
Barangays Banilad, Tipolo, and Subangdaku were recently trained by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) on disaster preparedness and prevention.
The Burauen officials also visited Mayor Jonas Cortes who assured them the city will show them how to train their own disaster brigades.
DILG director Marlyn Malquesto, who is from Burauen, said the town officials are also interested in automation.
She said their town can easily set the projects in motion since Burauen Mayor Fe Rinomeron is receptive to new ideas and the town has a good financial standing since it doesn't owe banks any money.
Burauen is a second class municipality in Leyte with a population of 47 thousand and is composed of 77 barangays.
