Concerned citizen helps police arrest two robbers

CEBU, Philippines - With the help of a concerned citizen, police arrested two men for robbing two women yesterday dawn in sitio Matumbo in barangtay Pusok, Laspu-Lapu City.

Arrested were Justin Abansilia, 20, of barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City and Roger Ruelo,18, of barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

The police in barangay Pusok said Flordelisa Tolentino, 33, and Benedicta Moreno, 21, both residents of sitio Matumbo in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City both victims were walking on their way home yesterday from work at the airport when two men onboard a motorcycle sidled up to them. One of them pointed a gun at the women who were divested of their phones, bracelet worth P3,000 and necklace worth P2,000.

But unknown to the robbers, a concerned citizen saw the crime being committed.

He called the police and tailed the robbers.

The police cornered the robbers in sitio Mustang in barangay Pusok and seized the gun used in the crime and the women's possessions.

Abansilia and Ruelo also admitted having robbed a University of Cebu-Lapu-Mandaue student of her cellular phone and a Pepsi dealer last August 31.

Both men are now detained. — THE FREEMAN
