Landing Shrine to get another facelift

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City's multi-million Landing Shrine in barangay Poblacion may soon get a facelift again.

This after the city council approved four proposed resolutions asking for a total of P4 million in financial aid from various sources.

One of these resolutions was a request for first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas for P3 million "for the funding of the City of Talisay's Landing Shrine renovation and upgrading."

"Whereas, this august body finds and believes that maintaining the cultural heritage of the city is vital to its people's historical knowledge," read a portion of the approved measure.

The landing shrine was constructed in the early 90s, and according to Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, author of the three resolutions, it had only undergone two renovations.

The latest of which was in 2009 when the city installed seven statues representing the American and Filipino soldiers who landed in that particular area in barangay Poblacion in March 26, 1945.

The statues cost P3 million, while another P3 million was spent for the renovation of the entire shrine.

It is not clear yet if the city will replace the two-year-old statues, but it sure needs more funding for the project.

Another resolution requesting Governor Gwen Garcia for P1 million was also approved.

Separate resolutions for P500,000 request for Provincial board members Julian Daan and Serrie Restauro each were also approved by the council. - THE FREEMAN
