Rep. Gullas pledges P5M for Naga market
CEBU, Philippines - First district Rep. Eduardo Gullas has pledged to give P5 million for the construction of the City of Naga's new public market which is set to start next year.
Gullas made his pledge in his speech during last Monday's celebration of Naga's 4th charter day anniversary.
The city will start the construction of the new market building next year, but Mayor Valdemar Chiong said Gullas's P5 million will go a long way.
There is no specific amount yet as to how much the construction of the market will cost the city government, especially that its new location will be moved to barangay Naalad.
Originally, Chiong wanted a portion of the city's 15-hectare reclaimed property as the site for the modern public market building.
But the plan is for the property is to turn it into a sea port.
From the original plan, the new market building will eat up a total land area of 1.5 hectares, a floor area of 3,000 to 4,000 square meters, and an estimated project cost of about P70 million.
Chiong said the old two-story public market in barangay Central Poblacion, which has become too crowded, will be converted into the City of Naga College. - THE FREEMAN
