Talisay sends cops to Tabunok market
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government has deployed at least 15 policemen to an area near the Tabunok Public Market to help maintain peace and order, ahead of the city's plan to rid the area of ambulant vendors.
Talisay City Police Station acting chief Eddie Recamara said the group will only keep the peace and order situation in the area as personnel from the city hall have been ordered to clear the spot of vendors.
These 15 policemen, who were deployed since Friday and remain in the area until Friday, come from stations in Minglanilla and Sibonga.
The city government had asked for the assistance of the police after some vendors refused to leave the streets.
The street under the Tabunok flyover had become crowded with tricycle units, vendors, and consumers since last week after the city fenced the Tabunok Public Market and the neighboring terminal as the Lagtang public market-cum-terminal opened.
Although some vendors have moved to Lagtang, several vendors still remain at the Tabunok area.
A lot of ambulant vendors, some were stallholders at the closed Tabunok market, sell also sell things under the flyover.
Meanwhile, the city has given these vendors until this week to clear the area.
