Servant steals, arrested

CEBU, Philippines - An 18-year-old manservant stole jewelry and other valuables worth P200,000 from his employer Friday afternoon in barangay Lagtang, Talisay City but was quickly arrested.

Police arrested Jessie Dave Manalo, 18, a native of Naval, Leyte for allegedly stealing from his employer Michael Yap Hermosisimo, 58, a resident of Azienda Firenze, barangay Maghaway, of the same city.

The police said the robbery took place sometime in the middle of last month.

It was Hermosisimo's son, Angelo, 33, who told the police about Manalo's whereabouts.

SPO4 Daniel Tarucan, PO3 Ferdinand Pablo and PO3 Benedicto Lasque immediately located Manalo and reportedly found Hermosisimo's key to his house in Manalo's possession.

Police also recovered a Rado ladies watch believed to be worth P3,000, a Swiss EB ladies wristwatch which cost about P3,000, a gold class ring worth P12,000, a P20,000-necklace, and three pawnshop receipts reportedly from three gold pendants and a class ring all worth P26,000; a Bushnell telescope worth P4,000, a Sonny video camera worth P30,000, and a Sony Ericsson cellular phone worth P1,000.

Two more receipts were recovered, reportedly representing a pawned gold necklace and a bracelet worth P75,000; and another three gold bracelets worth P37,000.

Based on the police blotter, the items were recovered from Vivian Layaguin of sitio Mananga I, Tabunok and couple Jeovani and Karren Laguayin of barangay Lawaan I.

Manalo is now detained at the Talisay City Police Station pending the filing of charges against him.
