Seminars set for Mandaue disaster brigade members
CEBU, Philippines - All members of the disaster brigades of the 27 barangays in Mandaue City will undergo a two day live-in seminar on disaster preparedness to be conducted by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (Eruf).
The seminar, which will be held at the Boys Scout of the Philippines in Camp Marina, Cebu City and that will involve nine groups starting September, is aimed at preparing the disaster brigades for disasters and calamities.
Earlier, the Mandaue City government purchased P1 million worth of equipment for the city's disaster preparedness program and distributed to the 27 barangays.
With the purchase of these equiptment, Mayor Jonas Cortes on the other hand assured that all members of the brigades will undergo seminars and trainings to give them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the equipment.
Among the other things they will learn during the seminars are firefighting, rescue and evacuation, first aid services, security group and crowd control, and the use of logistics and communication.
Each member who attends the seminars will be paid by the city government P1,664 each for their board and lodging, food, t-shirts, and training kits.
This budget will come from the city's calamity fund. - THE FREEMAN
