CEBU, Philippines - The P75-million new and modern public market in barangay Poblacion in Liloan town, which is named after the late and former town mayor Panphil Frasco, formally opened yesterday.
Cebu fifth district Congressman Ramon "Red" Durano VI, Governor Gwen Garcia, and Mayor Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco led the grand opening yesterday morning.
Also present during the opening ceremony of the new market were Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Provincial Board Member Thaddeus Durano Sybico, Presidential Management Staff Dotie Pilapil Reyes, Mayor Frasco's wife Christina Garcia-Frasco, and philantropist Mariquita-Salimbangon Yeung.
Liloan Vice Mayor Merelito Surita also led the members of the municipal council during the opening program.
In his message, Rep. Durano said the new public market of Liloan is the answer to the challenges of the town with the increasing number of its population.
He lauded Mayor Frasco and town officials who worked hard for the construction of the new market.
Governor Garcia, on the other hand, congratulated town officials headed by son-in-law Mayor Frasco adding that the new public market will serve people not only from Liloan but also from neighboring towns.
Magpale lauded the Frasco family and Aboitiz for donating the land where the market now stands.
Mayor Frasco said the dream of his late father eight years ago to build a new public market in the town has now come true.
Frasco thanked former president Joseph Estrada who facilitated the release of P20 million in financial assistance to the town.
Ms. Lisa Cangga, who represents the stall vendors at the new public market, also expressed her thanks to those who were responsible for the construction of the new public market.
Highlights of yesterday's opening included the awarding of three puroks in every barangay which actively participated in the clean and green program of the town under the EGWEN Program of the Cebu provincial government. (FREEMAN)
