Consolacion frees P6M for community college's operations

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The municipal government of Consolacion has allocated P6 million this year to sustain the operations of the Consolacion Community College.

Last year, the municipal government set aside P4.1 million to cover the salaries of teachers and other operating expenses.

Mayor Teresa Alegado said she worked for a proper budget when an authority to operate was issued on October 29, 2010 by the Commission on Higher Education.

The mayor said when she assumed office on July 1, 2010, education was her top priority especially the localization or legalizing of the Consolacion Community College.

"You all know, as I assumed office, there was this school college or tertiary school without the imprimatur of the Commission on Higher Education," Alegado said.

She said she could not turn her back to it.

Alegado said with the help of Consolacion Community College president Dra. Lolita Rodriguez and vice president for administration Dr. Marsipina Aguizanda, the three of them labored and worked hard to get an imprimatur, or an authority for the school, so the 800 students would definitely be legal college graduates in the future.
