MCC has new techvoc center

CEBU, Philippines - The technical and vocational training school of the city government of Mandaue is now integrated with Mandaue City College. The first batch of 276 students will have their graduation on August 17.

The new Mandaue City College Technical and Entrepreneurial Skills Training (MCCTEST) center which is formerly Entrepreneurial Development Program (EDP) is holding morning and evening classes at their building located at J.M. Ceniza St., Barangay Looc, Mandaue City.

The integration of MCCTEST into the Mandaue City College located at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex is governed under a newly passed resolution no. 12-259-2011.

"The integration of the techvoc will enable our students to access to the facilities of the college, improve more the quality of education and enable them to avail of the ladderized program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)," said Evangeline Manalili, officer-in-charge of the new division.

The division which is now in the process of being accredited by TESDA is offering a three-month short courses during daytime from 8 am to 12noon and 1 pm to 5 pm now with 276 students and ten-month courses in the evening from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The morning courses include, Culinary Arts, Cake Decorating, Meat Processing, Industrial Sewing Machine Operating, Draperies and Curtain, Automotive, Mechanic, Cosmetology, Dressmaking, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning , Computer Literary and Cosmetology. The evening courses with some 200 students are, Welding, Automotive, Mechanic, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Dressmaking, Electronics, Practical Electricity.

According to Manalili, one has to pay only P500 for the following expenses: two sets of uniform, one year insurance, ID and certificate.

A new office of the MCCTEST was inaugurated last Wednesday by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, First Lady Sarah Cortes and city councilors Diosdado Suico, lawyer Nenita Layese and other city officials.

During the inauguration, students in culinary arts, meat and food processing and cake decorating held an exhibit of their products.

"Our experience in the school will increase our chance for employment and enhance our existing business enterprise," said Ginavivie Sevilla, leader of the group which won the contest for cake decorating. - THE FREEMAN
