Lapu-Lapu bent on ending illegal fishing

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Task Force Kalikasan, in coordination with the city market office, will closely monitor fish and other marine products sold at the city public market and other satellite markets to prevent the entry of such products caught or obtained through illegal means.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said every barangay will have at least two fish wardens who are knowledgeable in such matters.

Radaza said the wardens will assist "Task Force Kalikasan," which was created by the city government.

After the success of the campaign against illegal extraction of sand and gravel, the city is now focused on illegal fishing.

"Aron maseguro nga kadtong gibaligya nga isda diha sa atong merkado wala makuha sa ilegal nga paagi, mao kini karon ang atong gihatagan sa hingpit nga pagmonitor," Radaza said.
