Man shot dead after allegedly stealing bike
CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot dead Sunday hours after having allegedly stolen a mountain bicycle from a neighbor in sitio Pukang, barangay Looc, Mandaue City.
Rey Ybañez, 29, of Looc, sustained a single gunshot wound to the head.
Police said that before the shooting, Ybañez allegedly had stolen a mountain bike owned by neighbor Wilfredo Bobog, 32.
Police also said Ybañez took the bicycle to his brother's house in barangay Cambaro and then went back to Looc without it.
Bobog reported the theft of his bicycle to the police.
Ybañez was already at home that night and heard someone calling his name, and stepped out of the house to find out who was calling him.
Since he did not see anyone, he turned back toward his house and as he turned he was shot in the head, killing him instantly.
The fact that the place was dark, no one saw who shot Ybañez.
However, a barangay tanod said he saw Bobog hurriedly leaving his place, bringing a bag with him.
Neither was Bobog in his house Sunday nor was he yesterday morning at the shipyard in San Fernando town where he works, police said. (FREEMAN)
