Man hacked, loses fingers

CEBU, Philippines - A man lost two of his fingers after a drunken man attacked him with a bolo yesterday afternoon at sitio Malumawan, barangay Babag, Cebu City.

Ricky Hollero, 38, a resident of the place was helping neighbor Eugene Survilla when another neighbor, Joel Bagio, 25, went to Survilla house, bringing a 19 inch bolo at 4:30 p.m.

Survilla turned to Hollero for help who immediately rushed to the scene to pacify Bagio by talking to him.

Bagio who was too drunk, got irked at Hollero and swung at him with his bolo.

In his efforts to defend himself, Hallero was hit on his left hand, cutting two fingers, his pinky and his ring finger.

While Bagio was busy swinging, Survilla got hold of a piece of wood which he used to defend himself.

Bagio also sustained injuries on his right body after Hallero retaliated by hitting Bagio several times.

Hallero told The FREEMAN it was not the first time that Bagio went amuck, adding that when drunk, Bagio would pick up a bolo and make a scene.

"Kun maka inum gali na siya, pirmi gyud na nga mag dala na siyag bolo, kana pang bugha pa gyud og kahoy" he said.

 Hallero, who works as a flower vendor at Carbon Market, said that with the two fingers now missing, his life would never be the same again.

In another development, at 4:45 p.m., Gil Rodel Pitogo, 38, was stabbed by an unidentified man after he refused to give some coins to a group of men.

Pitogo was reportedly stopped at Corner V. Rama and B. Rodriguez streets, barangay Calamba Cebu City when a group of men approached his jeepney.

The group asked him for a few coins but instead of giving, Pitogo scolded the group.

Suddenly, one of the men stabbed him from the back with an unidentified pointed object. The group immediately fled his jeepney after the stabbing.

Bystanders rushed the bleeding victim to Cebu City Memorial Medical Center. - THE FREEMAN
