13 arrested for illegal fishing

CEBU, Philippines - Task Force Kalikasan and Lapu-Lapu City's fish wardens arrested 13 fishermen Friday evening for illegal fishing.

The first group led by PO3 Jomar Ybañez, patrolling the open seas in barangay Kalawisan, arrested Reynaldo Dico, 28, Raymondo Berdon, 38, Danilo Berdon,49, and a minor.

Five hours later, Carlos Pitogo, 23, and Aldrin Canamo, who are both residents of barangay Punta Engaño, were arrested in the seawaters of barangay Maribago at around 1 a.m.

Also arrested were Rogelio Dano, 39, Alejandro Mencede, Cristino Mondito, 38, Nestor Bedigan, 38, of sitio Caw-oy of Olanggo island and three others who were minors.

The suspects are now detained at the Lapu-Lapu City police station pending the filing of charges.

Seized from the fishermen were fine nets, compressors, and other equipment used in Illegal fishing. (FREEMAN)
