Quisumbing launches "IQ" scholarship program
CEBU, Philippines - Sixth district Rep. Luis Gabriel Quisumbing launched the other day his "Iskolar Quisumbing "IQ" Educational Assistance Program" for poor but deserving college students from Mandaue City, Consolacion and Cordova towns.
The program is in being implemented in partnership with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The recipients number 1,000 who have passed the criteria set by the staff of Quisumbing's district office. Each student entitled to P2,500 per semester as educational assistance.
Scholars do not have to maintain high grades in school.
Passing grades would suffice to remain in the program.
A failing grade would mean the end of a free education.
Quisumbing's scholarship program aim to make quality education accessible to the youth.
Quisumbing the program is not solely a scholastic undertaking.
Scholars return the favor through volunteerism.
Scholars as well as parents are encouraged to participate in livelihood trainings, leadership seminars, value formations, and other projects being conducted at the district office that will enhance skills and talents to better serve the community and to work together for the upliftment of the sixth district.
From the usual practice of scholars dropping by his district office to claim their P2,500 in educational assistance for enrollment, this time beneficiaries are obliged to attend meetings every second Saturdays of the month starting on September 12.
They are also required to attend general assemblies every end of semester and are obliged to submit their final grades to make sure that they have completed the semester.
If the scholars fail to attend these meetings and general assemblies, they would likely be excluded from the program the following semester.
Also present during the launching was Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Partylist representative Mark Zambar, who also made a commitment to extend scholarship grants to the sixth district. (FREEMAN)
