CEBU, Philippines - The lost caliber .45 pistol service firearm owned by PO1 William Mangubat, the field training police who was shot dead in Talisay City, was turned over Friday to the Provincial Intelligence Branch.

The pistol was turned over by Rommel Parisan, of barangay Dawis, after it was allegedly left by brothers Lito Oros and Jundee Oros, both of barangay Mananga who are still at large.

Superintendent Rodolfo Albotra, chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch said Parisan decided to turn over the pistol when he noticed that the police were looking for it.

"He helped us recover the firearm which was intentionally left by the suspects," Albotra said.

The Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section (FESSAGS) also confirmed that the firearm was registered in Mangubat's name.

During interrogation, Noel Simbajon, who was tagged as the gunman in the killing of Mangubat, revealed possible leads that would lead to the arrest of the Oros brothers. However, the information remained confidential.

The Talisay City Police brought Simbajon for robbery with homicide to court for commitment.

The Talisay police brought him to the court at around 3:00 in the afternoon upon commitment order of Judge Gilbert Moises, of the Regional Trial Court Branch 18, who issued the warrant of arrest on June 9.

Moises set an arraignment on August 3. Simbajon was then taken to the Talisay City Jail where he was detained.

Recently, Simbajon, 29, of sitio Mananga, barangay Tabunok, Talisay City was arrested in barangay Bintana, Tangub City, Misamis Oriental by the Talisay police and Tangub police.

After more than three months of hiding, he was arrested during a checkpoint operation while he was on board a motorcycle-for-hire.

Mangubat, 27, was shot dead while responding to a snatching incident in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City.

He was chasing the suspects and tried to arrest them when he was shot once. (FREEMAN)
