MCPO puts up musical band

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Who ever thought the police, the neighborhood’s unsung heroes, could find the time to sing, dance, or play musical instruments?

Well, the Mandaue City Police Office has created its own musical band.

City Police director Noel Gillamac yesterday said the MCPO will be coming out with its own musical band soon for the purpose of entertaining the public and to showcase the talents of his men.

However, he assured work won’t be hampered since practice is done on Saturdays, Sundays, and days-off.

The band will debut on July 29 as a contestant in the “PNP Got Talent” at the Police Regional Office-7, which is one of the highlights of the Police Community Relations (PCR) Month.

“A lot of our policemen have talents and one way to become closer to the people is through our music, which could be another way of winning their respect, hearts, and minds,” Gillamac said.

He said each policeman in the MCPO contributed for the purchase of the musical instruments worth P162,000, which are now stored in their conference room.

He said that each police commissioned officer contributed P300 while each Police Non-Commissioned Officer contributed P200.

Gillamac said a close friend of his has volunteered to coach his band free of charge.

Gillamac will also join the band as one of the drummers. The other two drummers are PO2 Ricardo Petiluna and PO1 Jessie James Galo.

The lead vocalists include P/Sr./Insp. Meche Gabod, PO1 Glen Besande, PO1 Adrian Aton, keyboardist is P/Supt.James Goforth, on lead guitar is PO3 Roberto Neri, on rhythm guitar is NUP Carlos Gocotano, and bass guitarist is PO2 Lenado Silas.

Cebu City Police Office director Melvin Buenafe composed jingles and launched these during the “Movement Against Drugs” (MAD) march rally last June 24 and he also launched today a jingle that tells about the life of the city’s street children.  (FREEMAN)
