Fisher dies as dynamite goes off too soon
CEBU, Philippines - A 62-year-old fisherman was killed while his 11-year-old grandson and a 41-year-old companion were injured when homemade dynamite accidentally blew up while inside their pump boat at the seawaters off the islet barangay of Caubian in Lapu-lapu City, Sunday evening.
Lapu-Lapu Police Homicide investigators identified the fatality as Cordelio Queruben, a resident of barangay Caubian, Lapu-Lapu City.
Injured by the explosion were Richard Ocaba, 41, and grandson of Queruben who sustained minor injuries.
Lapu-Lapu Police investigators disclosed that Queruben, his grandson, and a neighbor were fishing at around 8:45 p.m. at the seawaters off barangay Caubian.
Queruben allegedly used homemade dynamite but it exploded before he could hurl it into the sea.
Queruben, who sustained wounds on his hands and body, died on the spot. (FREEMAN)
