CEBU, Philippines - An elder brother of retired police general and now lawyer Fritz Quiñanola was killed by his houseboy Tuesday night inside his house at Doña Rosario Village in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City.
Henry Quiñanola, 68, married, was killed by his houseboy Jimmy Ruiz, 20, single, and a native of Turno town in Dipolog City.
Police said Ruiz had been living with Quiñanola for a year now.
A few days ago, Ruiz who had planned to go home to his hometown, had asked for money from Quiñanola but Quiñanola refused because he wanted Ruiz to postpone his trip until Quiñanola’s family members returned home from an out of town trip.
A witness claimed that last Tuesday night Quiñanola and Ruiz engaged in a shouting match which led to Quiñanola hitting Ruiz with a piece of wood.
Ruiz retaliated by stabbing Quiñanola several times with an improvised screwdriver.
The witness then informed village guard Isagani Labra about the incident.
The guard handcuffed Ruiz and then called the Basak Police Station.
The police found the improvised screw driver and P5,560 which was allegedly owned by Quiñanola.
Ruiz said he took the money from Quiñanola’s wallet after killing him.
Quiñanola’s body was found covered with a blanket when the police came.
Ruiz is now detained pending the filing of robbery with homicide against him. – THE FREEMAN
