Talisay to create nutrition council
CEBU, Philippines - To heighten its campaign against malnutrition, the Talisay City council through a measure will create a local nutrition council.
The city council during its last session approved on first reading an ordinance for the creation of the City Nutrition Council authored by Councilor Choy Aznar, chairman on council commmitee on Health.
It is now pending with the committee on Laws for some amendments.
Once the proposed ordinance is approved, the council will monitor the health of the city's 190,000 constituents.
Talisay, in a 2007 survey conducted by the Regional Nutritional Council, leads the list of the Nutritionally Depressed Local Government Units in the region.
"Whereas, there is a need for the City of Talisay to respond to the challenge to move the City out from being Rank One High in Malnutrition through the creation of Talisay City Nutritional Council to address the nutrition and/or malnutrition issues of the City and to coordinate to with the National Nutritional Council," a portion of the proposed ordinance read.
"The creation of the Talisay City Nutrition Council performs a vital role in achieving a nutritionally improved City whose people are well-nourished, healthy, intelligent, hence, socially, economically and politically productive having a high sense of human dignity which is the priority agenda of the City of Talisay," it added.
Presently however, the city government, since that 2007 news, has set in motion feeding programs in its 22 barangays. (FREEMAN)
