CEBU, Philippines - Projects funded by the Cebu provincial government such as those that are designed to address the lack of classrooms and the traffic problems in Consolacion town were inaugurated yesterday.
Governor Gwen Garcia, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, and Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado led yesterday's inauguration ceremony held in barangays Lamac, Tayud, and Jugan.
The ceremony was also attended by the department heads of the Cebu provincial government, municipal department heads, and barangay captains.
Garcia first visited Lamac Elementary School in barangay Lamac and led the inauguration of the two-classroom school building.
The governor admitted that it is the first time for her to visit barangay Lamac to attend the inauguration of a school building funded by the provincial government.
Teachers and students from Lamac Elementary School expressed their thanks to Governor Garcia for her concern.
After barangay Lamac, Garcia led the cutting of ribbon of another two-classroom school building for the students of Tayud National High School.
Garcia also distributed school supplies for the students and also class records for teachers.
A Memorandum of Agreement was also signed by Governor Garcia and Mayor Alegado for the implementation of the program to benefit women under the Bigasan sa Kababayen-an.
Ten sacks of NFA rice were given to the women's group in the town as initial support.
Vaccines for rabies were also given to the municipal government for distribution to the different barangays.
Two children with disabilities, Paulo Aquino and Jennelyn Tunacao, were also given assistance.
Highlighting yesterday's affair in Consolacion town was the inauguration of a bridge linking barangays Tayud and Jugan, a project funded by the provincial government which was meant to solve the traffic problems in the town.
Motorists passing the Cebu North Coastal Road will have easy access to the town proper passing the Tayud-Jugan bridge.
Barangay Jugan captain Diosdada Gielcyk and barangay Tayud captain Blessilda Villo thanked Garcia for the bridge.
Mayor Alegado, on the other hand, said that the opening of the new bridge is vital to Consolacion once SM Mall is finished. – THE FREEMAN
