CEBU, Philippines- Two suspected robbers were arrested near a checkpoint along A.S Fortuna Street in barangay Banilad Friday.
Richard Tan, 33, married, of Guinsay, Danao City and Ricky Maunis, 35, married of Jubay, Liloan town were arrested during a brief chase at around 6:30 am last Friday by men of the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) who were at a checkpoint in the place.
IDMB deputy Chief P/Insp. Ramil Morpos said the two men were arrested after a conductor of the multicab passenger jeepney informed them about four suspicious passengers who disembarked from the jeepney when the jeepney was nearing the checkpoint.
Morpos said the conductor told them that the four men's waists were bulging. The police went to work.
Only Tan and Maunis were caught. Tan yielded a loaded .38 caliber revolver and one small pack of shabu.
Seized from Maunis were a .22 magnum caliber revolver and a small pack of shabu.
Both men were taken to the Mandaue City Police Office. A background check proved the two men had been arrested previously for theft.
Morpos believes Tan and Maunis were planning to rob call center agents.
They are now detained at the Mandaue City Police station 1.
