For saving baby brother, praise for girl, 7, sought

CEBU, Philippines- The Mandaue City Social Welfare Services would ask the city council to commend a seven-year-old girl for saving her nine-month-old baby brother from a fire that hit their house in barangay Tawason Thursday afternoon.

Their parents were out at the time fire broke out.

Maricel Yu, a senior officer of the CSWS said that the she has already prepared her recommendation of which she will endorse to the city council early next week as she is also set to see Christine anytime soon to bring her school supplies and vitamins she needs.

According to Yu, Christine dislayed courage and presence of mind when fire hit their house.

While her two other siblings panicked and went out, she remembered their nine-month old brother Chris Bernard and returned to their room and took him from his hammock.

A lighted mosquito killer coil could have been the cause of the fire.
