CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government and officials of the Philippine Air Force based at the Mactan Benito Abuen Air Base have agreed to pool resources to promote sports as a way to combat illegal drugs.
Lt. Gen. Oscar Rabena, commanding general of the Philippine Air Force and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza made the statement during the opening of the Philippine Air Force Youth Olympics yesterday.
Most of the participants were children of the members of the air force.
Also highlighted the opening ceremony is the presence of Philippine Azkals member Airman First Class Emilio Caligdong cheered the players.
Caligdong told the participants to enjoy the games.
For his part, Rabena said it is high time drug abuse was addressed.
He said some youths fall prey to drugs because of the absence of diversions such as sports.
Mayor Radaza, on the other hand, said the city sports commission has a one year-round program that promotes sports. — THE FREEMAN
