Talisay CH ready to transfer vendors to market in Lagtang
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City hall is ready to move Tabunok Public Market vendors to the public market-cum-terminal in barangay Lagtang but the schedule for the transfer which originally should have been on the fifteenth has been moved to May 28.
The city's public information officer Arturo Bas said that to accommodate all vendors, the city will implement a one-stall-one-owner policy.
Bas said this scheme is designed to prevent individuals from owning more than one stall.
In the meat section, for example, one family has occupies most of the stalls there.
Bas said some stallholders in the old public market own two or more stores.
In the Lagtang market, that practice will be discouraged in order to accommodate all vendors, the PIO said.
Vendors are hesitant to transfer because of the perceived lack of space.
They said the 80 stalls in the fish section, for one, are not enough for the 180 vendors. The Tabunok market has 100 stalls.
But the lack of stalls is just minor issue to them, according to Marivic Lasquete, vice president of Tabunok Public Market Fish Vendors Association.
She said the new facility is not accessible to market goers which will likely affect their business.
The city hall meanwhile has yet to build a circumferential road that will bring in customers from the Tabunok area to the Lagtang Public Market. (FREEMAN)
