Policeman shoots, wounds snatcher

CEBU, Philippines - A notorious snatcher was injured after being shot by a policeman following a chase yesterday dawn in barangay Lawaan I, Talisay City.

Jovert Nabello, 25, a resident of barangay Cansojong, sustained a gunshot wound in his left thigh, and is now being treated at the Talisay District Hospital.

Based on the investigation of the Talisay City police, Nabello was with two others on a motorcycle along the road of Lawaan I when a team of policemen stopped them at a checkpoint.

The group stopped but when police were about to frisk them, Nabello and another motorcycle passenger Marlon Caparida, a resident of barangay Mohon, ran away.

The driver of the motorcycle, who remained unidentified as of press time, also revved up the vehicle and drove off.

Police ran after Nabello and Caparida, where during the operation Nabello reportedly fired at the coming policemen but missed.

SPO3 Daniel Tarnuca fired back and hit Nabello in his left thigh which paralyzed him.

When they finally got him, police recovered a 357 magnum revolver with three live ammunition and one empty shell, a marijuana stick and a lady's bag.

His companion Caparida, who is also a notorious snatcher in the city, has remained at large as of press time.

Meanwhile, police are still looking for the two other suspects and at the same time preparing the cases to be charged against them. - THE FREEMAN
