Pasil fish sellers given ultimatum

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - At least 300 fish sellers have three more months to stay at the Pasil Fish Market before they move to the Pasil Fish Port building.

This as Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama issued an ultimatum to the City Market Office to transfer the fish vendors to fish port building.

Earlier, Rama gave market administrator Racquel Arce six months to relocate the vendors but reduced the number of months to three in view of the plan to widen Belgium Street and another road that lead to the fish port at the shoreline of barangay Pasil.

The mayor also said he will hasten the implementation of the plan to transform the area into an open space and bring back the children's playground.

But Arce said she cannot meet the deadline because another building is needed to be able to accommodate all 300 vendors.

"Nakita nato nga dili pa gyud madala. Mohangyo pa mi ni mayor for an extension. Kinahanglan man ta maghimo og laing building aron masibo silang tanang vendors," Arce said.

The fish port is now being used as a docking area for boats of traders from Bohol and some other coastal places. (FREEMAN)
