Lapu-Lapu barangays pay fines for violation of solid waste law

-

CEBU, Philippines - After they were ordered to pay fine for violations of the solid waste law, barangay captains in Lapu-Lapu City are now leading the campaign to educate residents in the segregation of garbage.

Leo Mercado, barangay captain of Pajo and President of the Association of Barangay Councils, said that most of them have been ordered to pay fines by the City Solid Waste Management Office.

Barangay Pajo paid P3,300 for uncollected garbage for two occasions and negligence of duty.

"Mihangyo unta mi nga dili lang makamulta kay naguba man gud niatong higayona ang atong garbage truck, apan dili gyud pahangyo ang taga Solid Waste Management Office," said Mercado.

"Kita karon maoy naninkamot aron mahatagan og sulbad kining problema sa atong barangay," Mercado said.
