Village chiefs told to clean barangays

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay officials in Liloan town have been reminded to conduct periodic clean-ups in compliance with the cleanliness and beautification program of the municipal government.

Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco made the request during an informal meeting with barangay captains at his office.

Frasco issued Executive Order No. 2011-018 directing the barangay captains to lead clean-ups in their respective barangays.

Frasco said cleaning up of surroundings can help promote a healthier environment.

The mayor cited Section II of Municipal Ordinance No. 98-05 of the Environment and Sanitation Management Code which provides that periodic clean-ups should be done in all barangays of the municipality.

Frasco said periodic clean-ups in all barangays of the town shall be done every second Saturday of the last month of every quarter to commence simultaneously preferably at 7:00 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m.

The mayor also cited the need to conduct information dissemination such as recoredas, distribution of flyers and other forms of notifying the public relative to the periodic clean-up.
