Consolacion, to run landfill with local firm

CEBU, Philippines - Consolacion town and the Asian EnergySystems Corporation the other day finalized their agreement on the joint collaboration of the operation of the Consolacion Sanitary Landfill and the methane recovery and power generation facility in barangay Polog.

The addendum to the Memorandum of Agreement signed last December, 2010 by Mayor Teresa Alegado and Cipriano Abdon, President of the company were finally signed the other day.

The Sangguniang Bayan has approved a resolution ratifying the agreement.

In a talk with The FREEMAN, Alegado said that with the opening up of a sanitary landfill, the municipality now complies with the provisions of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The agreement states that the town will utilize the facility for all the garbage and other solid wastes, except hazardous and toxic ones.

The company will also accommodate garbage from adjoining towns and cities as well as private entities within the province of Cebu.

The Asian EnergySystems Corporation shall give the municipality a share of its profits equivalent to 3 percent of its net income after taxes which shall be due annually.

The management of Asian will open the books of account to the town if so warranted.

The management of Asian EnergySystems Corporation likewise will assist the municipal government in road maintenance through the use of available manpower and equipment including the setting up of new road networks leading to the project.

The management of Asian EnergySystems Corporation undertakes to strictly abide with the guidelines in the handling and transporting of solid waste to the afore-stated sanitary landfill and any violation thereof by the said company or its failure to impose the same guidelines to any of its customers shall be a ground for the imposition of penalties in accordance with the schedule to be provided by the municipality.

The allowable volume of garbage to be dumped daily, including the time within which transporting of garbage or passing of trucks should be allowed.
