Fisheries body seeks fishers help in fight vs. illegal fishing

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council has requested small fishermen residing in the islet barangays to help in the campaign against fishermen who are involved illegal fishing.

Reports reaching CFARMC officials suggest that fishermen involved in illegal fishing come from other cities and towns and from Bohol.

Earlier, Mayor Paz Radaza said the city government through the CFARMC has implemented projects that benefit the small fishermen in the city.

The city council is about to approve a measure that would protect the city's marine sanctuary.

The marine sanctuary is in barangay Talima in Olango Island.
