Talisay residents attend goat-raising seminar

-

CEBU, Philippines -  More than 200 residents all over the first district attended yesterday the seminar on goat raising, a project initiated by the province to help the indigents upgrade their goat breeding technique.

The seminar was held yesterday at the Talisay City People's Hall.

Felix Parba Jr., president of Cebu Goat and Sheep Raiser Association, said that they came to learn the cross-breeding of goats in which in the present technology has three kinds.

Yesterday's seminar has introduced the cross breeding of goats from countries like Australia and America. Each of these hybrid goats could weigh as much as 100 kilos, a huge difference from the native goat's weight, said Parba.

This is additional income for them, he said.

First district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, in a speech which was read by Talisay City Councilor Rodi Cabigas before the goat raisers, said that he has already allocated funding for the project.

His younger brother, Jose Gullas, during his term as congressman, had also introduced the breeding of Anglonovian goats in his district.

In Talisay City, goat raising is not a popular livelihood, but according to Parba it could be a lucrative business considering that it does not demand high maintenance compared to other livestock. –
