CEBU, Philippines - The new administration of barangay Pooc in Talisay City can't get financial assistance by the Capitol because the previous administration had failed to liquidate about P800,000 in aid given by the province.
"Maglisud mi og pangayo ron sa Capitol kay hangtud karon wap-a naka-liquidate sa mga financial assistance from 2005-2008," said
first-term Pooc barangay chief Dory Emit.
Emit, an opposition-backed candidate who was elected as chairman of the barangay last October, said he tried seeking for financial assistance from the province but was told that the barangay has to liquidate its P800,000 in financial aid first.
Emit said the amount covers the years 2005 to 2008, around the time when Osmundo Manreal Jr. was still the barangay chief.
Manreal served his final third term October last year.
He was elected as first councilman in the last barangay election but resigned a few weeks ago without spending a day as member of the barangay council.
Manreal now lives with his family in the USA.
Emit said he will file an affidavit in the capitol and state that he should not be made liable for the unliquidated funding as he assumed office just December 1 last year.
He said he is also set to request the Commission on Audit to check the financial books of his barangay.
