Stricter rules set for Miss Mandaue Winner

CEBU, Philippines - The reigning Miss Mandaue would be stripped of her crown if she figures in controversies during her reign, said Emilio "Jojin" Pascual, the executive director of the Fiesta Committee during yesterday's launch of the Mandaue Fiesta 2011.

Pascual made the statement in reference to the behavior of last year's Miss Mandaue, who figured in a scuffle with third runner-up winner Sharon Grace Angel.

He said the Mandaue City Legal department itself drafted the guidelines for ethical standards which the reigning Miss Mandaue is expected to abide once she starts her reign.

"The reigning Miss Mandaue should maintain a good reputation since her image reflects the city's image," Pascual said.

During the meeting de avance of the local officials of the Liberal Party led by Mayor Jonas Cortes last May 7, Katrina Gajudo, Miss Mandaue 2010, quarreled with third runner-up winner Angel.

Gajudo claimed Angel spread rumors that the contest was rigged.

The confrontation that night led to a catfight, compelling Sarah Walker Cortes, the mayor's wife, to reprimand both women. — THE FREEMAN
