CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City wants to be known for its delicious rice cake called "bibingka" in the vernacular.
When the city celebrates its fiesta on April 27, it would make an attempt at a Guinness World Record for the biggest "bibingka" ever made.
Mandaue City Tourism officer Louela Cabañero said the "Bibingkahan sa Mandaue," one of the highlights of city fiesta celebration, will be held at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center.
Aside from the known bibingka makers in the city, Cabañero said students trained by the Department of Education in bibingka making will also participate in the affair.
She said the Fiesta Committee will provide the "Bibingkahan" the ingredients including about 200 sacks of rice.
After the presentation, city residents can have a taste of the finished product.
Clark Pelaez of the Fiesta Committee said the bibingka would be as big as a basketball court.
The bibingka would be baked outside the sports complex but would be taken inside the complex for the presentation. – THE FREEMAN
