Mandaue conducts drive vs. bacteria contamination
CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City pubic market is conducting a campaign against bacteria contamination and is urging consumers to practice proper sanitary and hygiene while buying fish and meat.
Caesar Mercadal, assistant public market administrator during a weekly press conference with reporters said he is urging the consumers to bring along with them tongs or cellophane whenever they buy fish and meat inside the public market.
He said that the city wants to abolish the practice of touching and pinching fish or meat with the bare hands as the hands are one of the main sources of bacteria.
Meanwhile, Mercadal also said it has already been discussed during a meeting with the market authority board that chorizo makers should implement a dress code and a separate room inside the public market where they could make their chorizo.
Chorizo makers however have suggested that this will be done once they have transferred to the new public market at the back of Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
They said they themselves will pay for the cost of the construction of the room where they could make their chorizos.
For the meantime, chorizos are made at home.
Mercadal said the city is just awaiting for the contractor ,Young Builders, to turn over the market to the Mandaue City government before market stall vendors could transfer.
There are 1,486 new stalls at the new public market. (FREEMAN)
