One dies in road mishap

CEBU, Philippines - One died in a collision of motorcycles along the National Highway of San Vicente, barangay Yati, Liloan Sunday dawn.

Rodel Sipi, 29, a resident of barangay Tabla and his live-in partner Annalie Gelig, 28, sustained serious injuries. Both were taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Also taken to the hospital was Joven Pitogo, 29.

Gelig was transferred to Chong Hua hospital where she died an hour later.

Police Officer 2 Routchil Jugalbot of the Liloan Police Station said the Kawasaki 100cc motorcycle bearing plate number GN 9933 and driven by Sipi together with his live-in partner Gelig was bound for Cebu City while the Honda XRM 125cc motorcycle bearing plate number 6003 GL and driven by Joven Pitogo, 29, a resident of sitio San Vicente was bound for Liloan town from Cebu City when the incident happened.

Both vehicles were traveling fast when Pitogo, who did not notice Sipi approaching, suddenly made a left turn for San Vicente causing the collision.

Sipi who noticed Pitogo making a left turn, tried to apply the brakes but it was too late to avoid hitting Pitogo.

The impact threw Gelig a few meters away. Sipi crashed into the other motorcycle while Pitogo crashed into the pavement.

Bystanders nearby who saw the incident immediately helped the victims and called for help.

The victims were rushed to the hospital in Cebu City but Pitogo and Gelig were transferred to Chong Hua hospital.             Gelig was declared dead by the attending physician about 2:40 in the morning.

A reckless imprudence resulting to homicide will be filed against Pitogo who is still in the hospital.
