Talisay commends Donaire

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council during its regular session last Tuesday commended Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire.

The council approved Proposed Resolution No. 2011-07-3 which congratulates Donaire for winning the World Boxing Council Bantamweight championship fight held at Las Vegas, Nevada last Sunday.

Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III, who is chairman on council committee on Games and Amusement and Professional Sports, said the new boxing champ despite his “enormous potential” to become boxing legend Manny Pacquiao’s heir apparent has remained low key, a trait worthy of praise.

Donaire is “another Filipino boxing superhero” and a name “to reckon within the world boxing who deserves our pride and appreciation,” said Digul.

Donaire has been a flyweight champion who rose to 26-1 with his 18th victory inside the distance and 25th triumph in a row over the past decade.

His latest win Sunday came at the expense of Mexican Fernando Montiel who was knocked out in the second round. – THE FREEMAN
