Talisay likely to grab "Gender" award anew

-

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City is aiming to make it to the hall of fame as the Most Gender Responsive Local Government Unit (GRLGU) in the whole region, PO1 Violeta Godines of the Talisay City Police Station Women and Children's Protection Desk said in an interview.

The past two years, the city was recipient of this award, and Godines said it is likely it will also bag the same recognition this year.

Godines said based on the competition criteria, the city through the City Social Welfare Office has maintained its programs for the women, children and youth.

The other day, a team from the Provincial Women's Commission visited the city to check its facilities relative to the competition.

The awarding ceremony will be held next month at the Cebu International Convention Center in view of the celebration of the Women's Month.

March last year, city Councilor Shirley Belleza, former chairperson on city council commitee on Women, Children and Family, received the Most Gender Responsive LGU award for the city at the CICC.

The award was conferred by the Office of the Governor through the Provincial Women's Commission to the City of Talisay under the component cities category.

The award came with a trophy and P50,000.

Based on the Women and Children's Protection's desk record, the city has 32 cases of abuses against women.

Out of this number, 13 were sexual abuse against minors, and six were cases involving minors physically abused.

Another 13 were reports of adult women being physically abused. (FREEMAN)
