Ready classrooms for Tipolo pupils

CEBU, Philippines - In case of another flood, the Department of Education is readying classrooms for the Tipolo Elementary Schoolchildren whose school was flooded last January 25.

Benjamin Tiongson, the administrative officer of the Department of Education-Mandaue City division, said 14 classrooms have already been built and 7 have been renovated at the Mandaue City Central School which will accommodate the children who have been left without classrooms due to the flood.

That day, the water rose so high the children and teachers had to be rescued by the police, fire department, and the ERUF.

Their school is a two-story building, located near the Tipolo creek.

The city government plans to raise it or relocate the school to another site.

Part of the DepEd contingency plan is to allow the principal of the Tipolo Elementary School, in case of another flood occurs, to lead the children to the second floor immediately and declare a suspension of classes without having to notify the DepEd. (FREEMAN)
