CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said one of the ways to decongest traffic in barangay Basak is to compel tricycle drivers to make use of the tricycle lanes, which were put in place last year.
But at yesterday’s press conference, Radaza said what the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System has done so far in connection with the lanes has not made an impression on her.
The city government will purchase a towing truck to help the traffic body enforce the tricycle lane scheme.
The lanes for tricycles for hire stretches from the Mactan Aviation Road up to barangay Basak.
CTMS chief Frank Brazil said his office has received complaints from commuters bound for barangay Marigondon and neighboring barangays regarding the build up of traffic in Basak.
Abusive tricycle drivers are suspected of causing bottlenecks especially during peak hours in the Basak for ignoring the lanes.
The other cause of traffic jams is the mall in the barangay where vehicles stop to drop or pick up passengers.
Thousands of commuters that are mostly workers employed at the different business and industrial establishments at Mactan Export Processing Phase II pass through this barangay. – THE FREEMAN
